Mass Save® Workforce Training Grant

Increasing the sustainability and diversity of the energy efficiency workforce pipeline

The Mass Save Workforce Training Grant seeks to increase the sustainability of the energy efficiency workforce by prioritizing funding with grant dollars to support training and transitioning new workers into the energy efficiency workforce.

The grant provides annual funding for energy efficiency training and certification programs. Funding can range up to $7,500 per individual and up to $50,000 per organization. This grant prioritizes supporting diverse individuals in Environmental Justice Communities. The goal of this grant is to increase training and certification completion rates amongst diverse workers by alleviating the financial hardship that may pose as a barrier to participation.


Applications open on 5/15

Each year, individuals and organizations can apply to receive funding for energy efficiency trainings and certifications. Selected grant recipients may receive funding that can range from up to $7,500 per individual and up to $50,000 per organization.

Mass Save Workforce Training Grant applications will be accepted from May 15, 2024 through October 15, 2024. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed monthly. Applicants will be notified of a decision within 45 days of submission.

To be eligible for funding, applicant’s proposed programming must benefit residents who live in communities served by one or more of the Massachusetts Program Administrators (Berkshire Gas, Cape Light Compact, Eversource, Liberty, National Grid, Unitil).

The following entities are eligible to apply:

  • Massachusetts residents who are enrolling in an energy efficiency certification or training
  • Massachusetts organizations that currently offer energy efficiency certifications or trainings, including, but not limited to, the following:
    • Community-Based Organizations
    • Community Colleges
    • Training Centers and Trades Programs

Approved Programs

  • Training/Education: Approved program topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
    • Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning / Refrigeration
    • Weatherization
    • Building Controls
    • Energy Auditing
  • Certifications: Approved certifications include, but are not limited to, the following:
    • Certified Energy Manager/Certified Energy Auditor
    • Building Science Principles
    • GPRO Fundamentals of Building Green
    • Building Operator Certification
    • BPI Analyst Technician
    • BPI Analyst Professional
